Software Tool - Further Details...
Sport Search II includes an interactive computer-based learning tool that searches for sports based on six variables: height, weight, strength, speed, endurance and power.
The first screen is titled the 'Elite Performer'. The tool allows students to discover typical fitness levels and the height and weight of elite male and female athlete in 129 sports. The tool can be used to perform the following. · Find sports most suited to and least suited to the combination of body measures (height and weight) and fitness components (strength, speed, aerobic fitness and power) entered on the tool. · Select a sport to see the body measures and fitness components required to be successful in that sport at the elite level. · Manipulate the body measures and fitness components on the tool to see how this changes the most suitable and least suitable sports.
The second screen is titled 'Student Performer'. Students perform fitness tests to determine sports that they are most suited to. The data used in Sport Search is based on published reports on the best athletes in the world. These are generally adults competing in open events. As students are yet to reach adult size an additional function of the tool is to allow students to predict changes to their height, weight and fitness levels to identify potential sports for the future. This takes into consideration changes due to both growth and training.
This part of the tool can be used to examine the following ideas. · Identify the sports currently suited to personal body measures (height and weight) and fitness components (strength, speed, aerobic fitness and power) · Predict changes to body measures and fitness components to identify potential sports. · Predict changes to find a sport that you are most suited to and least suited to at the elite level based on adult values · Rank the sport group that you are most suited to. Groups include power, endurance, strength, speed, game or skill sports.
