Human Energy Systems I is an introduction to the energy systems. Students are taught that the release of energy comes from two systems: aerobic and anaerobic. Simple equations are used to explain the chemical reactions in the body. The interactive Learning Tool reinforces the relationship between intensity of exercise and the time for which an individual can continue to exercise and explores the relationship between the aerobic and anaerobic systems.
Topics Covered:
Provide an introduction to the energy systems:
· What's so important about energy? · What is respiration? · What is the aerobic energy system? · What is the anaerobic energy system? · How do lactic acid and oxygen debt affect performance?
Included on the CD is a computer-based interactive learning tool along with a PowerPoint presentation and an e-book (36 pages) containing:
· Ready-to-use worksheets · Practical activities · Laboratory-style investigations · Factual information · Questions and answers
2. The following sample allows you to review a flash (swf) version of the PowerPoint presentation for this unit. You can click on thumbnails (or the timeline) to scroll through the presentation and clicking the notes tab will display a particular slide's notes. Software Tool - Further Details...
Human Energy Systems I includes an interactive computer-based learning tool that reinforces the relationship between intensity of exercise and the time for which an individual can continue to exercise. It also reinforces the interplay between the aerobic and anaerobic systems. It involves simulated bicycle rides by a hypothetical rider. It allows you to: · set a variety of work rates, known as power output (W) · watch the cyclist pedal at different power outputs until exhaustion · watch the contributions from the energy systems and see the speed at which they deplete · vary the fitness of the cyclist and see the impact this has on performance.
